Traffic Safety Devices that Help Cyclists

There are many devices that help protect cyclists from injury while riding, especially in urban locations. Bicycle transportation engineers have created dedicated paths and traffic safety devices that keep cyclists safe while remaining almost entirely unnoticeable. Everything from bike lane bollards to a variety of lanes are installed in most urban and suburban areas to allow cyclists to enjoy their ride.

Different Types of Lanes

Along with security devices, bike paths and lanes themselves are designed to keep traffic at a consistently safe distance from them. In many cases, bike paths are constructed beside roads, physically separated either by delineators or other separators. Certain shoulders have also been modified to allow cyclists and bikers to travel over them, such as at street corners. Bike paths have also been built to completely avoid traffic altogether while allowing cyclists to reach the same locations as motor vehicles.

Traffic Bollards

Another way to keep cyclists safe from the dangers of traffic is to have bollards set up. Different types of posts such as collapsible, removable and fixed bollards protect cyclists from low and high speed accidents. For instance, collapsible bollards can sit on the entrances of bike paths to keep motor vehicles out while leaving enough space for bicycles to pass through.

Other Safety Measures

Many other road bike safety measures have been used and are still in use to preserve cyclists’ wellbeing. Traffic safety devices such as traffic lights that detect cyclists, hazard-free roads, and separate bicycle parking areas work effectively to prevent bicycles from coming into contact with regular traffic. Cyclists require an environment with the proper safety measures implemented at all times. Systems of bollards and other traffic safety devices continue to work in their best interests.   TrafficGaurd-BlogCTA-BuyersGuide
