Year 2025
The City of Bloomington, IN originally deployed TrafficGuard® 20 mph crash rated removable bollards to close off streets to allow safe outdoor seating during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, they were looking past the pandemic and into the future.
Now, for the first time since the pandemic, Taste of Bloomington – a street festival - returned on Saturday (Aug. 2) with local restaurant booths and musical talent. Bloomington will deploy the bollards again for the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival in September and for other events throughout the year.
TrafficGuard® bollards were strategically placed at key entry points along five downtown blocks, preventing unauthorized vehicle intrusion while allowing emergency and pedestrian access via TrafficGuard®’s patented helix locking design. TrafficGuard® bollards balance safety, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, making them suitable for temporary streetscape applications like festivals, markets, or road closures, ensuring pedestrian safety without compromising event accessibility or urban charm.
Bloomington was thinking ahead on security as both accidental and intentional vehicular incursions are on the rise across the country, such as the vehicle ramming attack in New Orleans in January of 2025.
